Started where you are now.

Jamie Bell is a Level 3 qualified personal trainer in Airdrie, specialising in strength and conditioning, muscle tone and development, and body confidence. Based at PureGym Airdrie, he helps beginners and intermediates build sustainable gym habits — serving Airdrie, Coatbridge and Bellshill.

Here’s the honest version: I spent years struggling with my own weight and eating before fitness clicked. It wasn’t willpower I was missing — it was a routine that actually fitted my life. Eight years on, I’ve built that routine for myself and helped friends and family do the same.

I’ve been a hiker. I’ve been a distance runner. I now train almost exclusively with weights — because that’s what I’ve discovered I love. The point isn’t to copy what works for me. The point is to help you find the version of fitness that you’ll actually keep doing.

I’ve never set foot in a gym — is this for me?
Yes — beginners are exactly who I love working with. Most of my clients started with zero gym experience. I’ll meet you where you are, show you how every machine works, and build your confidence one session at a time. There’s no “too out of shape” for me.
What does the free consultation involve?
A relaxed 20-minute chat at PureGym Airdrie. I’ll ask about your goals, any past injuries, what’s worked and what hasn’t, and what you actually enjoy doing. No pressure to sign up — you’ll leave with a clearer plan either way.
I’m an intermediate stuck in a plateau — can you help?
Absolutely. Plateaus are usually a programming issue, not an effort issue. I’ll audit your current training, identify the specific reason you’ve stalled, and rebuild your programme around progressive overload, recovery, and the lifts you’re probably avoiding.
How often should I train with a PT?
Most clients start with 1-2 sessions a week alongside training on their own. Once you’ve learned the movements and the structure, I can write programmes you follow solo and check in less often — the goal is to make you self-sufficient, not dependent on me.
Do I need to be fit before I start?
No. I spent years struggling with my own weight before finding what worked, so I genuinely understand starting from zero. The whole point of personal training is that the programme adapts to you, not the other way round.
Where will we train?
All sessions take place at PureGym Airdrie (6 Manse Place, Weavers Road, ML6 0AN). You’ll need a PureGym membership — I can advise on the best plan when you book.
